About workshops

Reach your own beauty goals by learning why, not just how - uncovering core makeup principals that meet you at your needs and skill level

No two people share the same beauty, and no two people share the same beauty ideals. But a lot of people share similar categorical skill sets they want to master when it comes to applying makeup to their faces.

MakeUpSkill approaches makeup application differently. We break down each technique into reason and effect to enhance understanding from an artistic point of view. Unlike traditional makeup workshops that lead you through the application of a prescribed look, these modular workshops explore open ended, analytical methods that allow you to easily apply techniques in various ways.

Each workshop is designed to speak to people of all ages and skin tones. Modules span from basic to experienced levels, giving you the opportunity to focus on the skills you're wanting to build, without the generalised fluff, things you don't need yet, or subject matter you already have a clear understanding of. The flexibility for you to build your own version of a perfect makeup look makes them perfect for parties, private or corporate groups, or for a one on one lesson in putting your best self forward.

The way people first see you, is how they first see you. Everyone has a story to tell, and whether the application is heavy or light, makeup helps open that door. Let's UpSkill your makeup techniques so you're more easily able to convey what you want to share with the world, and feel like the very best version of yourself, whatever that looks like to you.

Tiffany Wilson Makeup artist workshop lessons Johannesburg south africa

Hair & Makeup Artist, Educator

Tiffany has been a full time hair and makeup artist since 2010. Creative and personal expression in its various mediums has been a fundamental interest of hers from as far back as she can remember - she has loved to paint, draw, sculpt, write, sing, cook, play the piano and play dress up since childhood, and has kept those strong into adulthood by working most of them into her current life and work.

After school she studied fashion design, where she gained an understanding of trends, and started to develop an appreciation for how people express themselves, through the context of culture, worldview and self perception, and how we view the external world in the same way. Specialising in corsetry, she also gained a deeper understanding of third dimensional perspectives, and  translating visual proportion across a range of shapes.

After her final year, she decided to expand her skill set and study makeup artistry. It became a medium between sculpting and painting for her, and a different place to explore the nuance of self expression. She started working for MAC Cosmetics after graduating, where she gained exposure to a vast array of consumer categories, undertones, concerns and perceptions. She stayed for a year and a half until she decided to focus on her expanding freelance career, just before summiting Kilimanjaro in December 2011. She has since become a recognised name in fashion and media, working with stills, media and live event productions, as well as bridal and personal makeup.
